Overview of various touch technologies

The basic operating principle of touchscreens is relatively simple. A rectangular glass surface is equipped with electronics. These detect the position of a finger or other element that touches this surface. The resulting signal is sent to the data-processing system via a controller. Seen in this way, a touchscreen is comparable to an oversized touchpad.

Touchscreen technology gains its advantages in combination with a monitor. The transparent touch screen, which is applied frontally and congruently to the monitor, forms a sensitive surface. All graphic elements displayed on the screen can be accessed via this surface. This means that the entire user interface is created completely freely and variably on the monitor. In contrast to conventional keyboards, whose operating elements are fixed in the form of keys, any interface configuration is possible here via the software level.

Different types of touchscreens are available for different application environments and user preferences. In the PDF below, we show you an overview of all the common technologies we use in our systems.
