The membrane keypad is manufactured as a multi-layer film laminate. Silver conductive lacquer-printed polyester foils are used as switching foils. The lower and upper switching foils are kept apart by a spacer foil. The contact closes when pressure is applied to the upper design foil in the area of the button.

Higher-quality membrane keyboards are designed with spring snap domes as the switching element. The design foil is located above the upper switching foil. This is transparent and has a finely structured or smooth surface.

The foil can be printed with any colour and information content. Tactile key borders with edge, dome or key embossing create a good tactile feel and give the finger good guidance.
